White Pocket is a living sculpture of Earth. Every line and fold tells a story of wind, water and deep time.

Captured by drone, this image reveals a section of the Navajo Sandstone formation, created approximately 150 to 190 million years ago when northern Arizona was a vast desert. Over time, sand dunes were compressed and turned into rock.

The visible structures result from the combined forces of wind, earth, water and time. Wind carved delicate lines. The ground shifted and collapsed. Water seeped into soft layers and altered their form under pressure. Time solidified it all into stone.

The colors have a geologic origin. Reds and pinks come from iron oxides. Pale streaks are pure sand without mineral tint. The wavy folds and swirls are created through soft-sediment deformation. This occurs when waterlogged layers shift or sink, often after an earthquake.

This is more than just geology. It’s a record of the planet’s memory.
